Stumbling Upon Banh Mi

Mike and I went to downtown earlier this month to visit the Crow Collection of Asian Art and when we got there we walked right into a month-of-art kick off day in downtown. All the museums had special things going on and food trucks were lining up and beginning to serve food. We finally caught Nammi and were able to grab a banh mi. Seriously delish and a huge sandwich for around $8.

Food Truck Fest + In & Out

We went to the first food truck festival in Dallas recently. Two things to say - really excited about all the different food trucks and it was entirely too hot to have an outdoor food festival in a parking lot at 6 pm. Its August people!

We only grabbed one thing while there. We just couldn't handle the sun. No clouds, no shade, no fans. Another thing we noticed is that even though we got there at 5:30 (30 minutes early) some of the trucks were already running out of items by 6, the actual time the fest was supposed to begin.

Anyway. We tried Jack's Chowhound and got this sandwich with fajita meat, cheddar, pico and horseradish mayo. It was pretty good. I'm also interested in trying their steak frites (steak over parmesan fries). I really hope the festival is better next time. I think more space and an option to stand in some shade would have gone a long way!


So, after splitting this sandwich, we were starving and couldn't stand in another line without passing out so we headed over to In & Out on our way home. We've think the burgers are bigger here than they were in Cali. Still delish though!




Clearly we had a super healthy dinner that night. Yikes. We promptly took Daisy for a walk.

Food Truck Stalking - SSahmBBQ

Mike and I are huge fans of food trucks. I love the idea of them. And I love that its usually people that just love what they do and by visiting we are directly supporting them and their idea.

Sadly, Dallas has been super slow to jump on the food truck craze. However, the past few weeks have been filled with emails about a few new food trucks that have started as well as descriptions of a food trailer park that will be on Greenville in 2012.

Mike and I went to try SSahmBBQ (Korean tacos). It was to die for. And the people running the truck were really nice!

We tried almost everything... kimchee fries with monterey jack & cheddar cheese, cilantro & onion, caramelized kimchee and ddak (spicy chicken); a daeji (spicy pork) taco with sesame soy vinaigrette salad, caramelized kimchee, cilantro & onion, and salsa rojo; and a kalbi (short rib) burrito with sesame soy vinaigrette salad, monterey jack & cheddar cheese, cilantro & onion, caramelized kimchee, and cilantro lime jasmine rice.
